The purpose of this Evidence and Gap Map (EGM) is to display available evidence on home-based interventions that support functional ability in older adults.

This EGM includes 120 systematic reviews and 428 randomized trials of effectiveness.

In the map, the rows are intervention categories and the columns are outcome domains. The cells of the table contain a bubble whose size is proportional to the number of studies reporting that outcome for that intervention. Separate bubbles show systematic review quality as assessed by using the AMSTAR-2 tool. Red color bubbles indicated 'low and critically low quality' systematic reviews, green indicate ‘moderate quality’ and blue ‘high quality’ systematic reviews. Primary studies are indicated by the colour purple.

The map has four distinct styles for displaying the studies. Clicking on a cell gives a list of studies corresponding to an intervention and outcome for that cell. Click on a study in the list to get publication details and URL to access the study itself. The map can be sorted by filters including and not limited to setting, health status/condition, or gender/health inequalities. To use this function click the ‘Filters’ tab on the top-left corner of the map. Once all the relevant filters have been selected, click on ‘Update’. Cells which do not have any studies identify areas of key gaps in the evidence base, and therefore, potential areas of future research.

Please note that a single study may appear in more than one box when more than one intervention or outcome was assessed.
